Commissions in India: An Introduction
- A commission is a group of people appointed by the government to accomplish a specific task or goal. It can be long-term or specific to achieve a short-term goal. Perpetual commissions are long-term commissions. Ad hoc commissions are commissions charged with carrying out a specific task.
- Some commissions are permanent, others time-limited. This latter type is established for a single purpose and expires once its mission is accomplished and its report is submitted to the government.
