The world of whole mathematics started with the understanding of Geometry and geometrical figures. To understand geometry in the best possible and practical way, measurements of lines and heights are mandatory. So this is where centimeters and millimeters play a very important role in relating to reality. Sometimes, you may imagine something in centimeters but in reality, it may appear in millimeters. But, be relaxed we are here to fill the gap between your imagination and reality with a proper understanding of the measurements.

What is a Centimeter?

A centimeter is a unit in the metric system which is used to measure length. It is comparable to one-hundredth of a meter, centi being the SI prefix for a factor of 1/100. In the ongoing expostulated CGS (centimeter-gram-second) arrangement of units, the centimeter was viewed as the base unit of length. In the decimal standard,

“centi” is the prefix for 10-2. 1 Centimeter can also be written as 1 cm.

What is a Millimeter?

A Millimeter is a unit in the metric system which is used to measure the length. It is also a prefix to the meter and one-thousandth part of a meter. The millimeter is a multiple of the meter, which is the SI base unit for length. Millimeters can be shortened as mm. In the decimal standard,

“milli” is the prefix for 10-3. 1 millimeter can also be written as 1 mm.

Conversion of centimeters to millimeters

We can convert centimeter to millimeter by multiplying the length by the conversion ratio. as we known that one centimeter is equal to ten millimeters, So the formula can be:

millimeter = centimeter x 10

Sample Questions

Question 1: How to convert 5 cm into millimeters?

Solution:

Formula: mm = cm x 10

5 cm x 10 = 50 mm.

Therefore 5 cm is equivalent to 50 mm.

Question 2: A piece of wood is 400 cm. convert it into millimeters.

Solution:

Formula: mm = cm x 10

400 cm x 10 = 4000 mm

Therefore 400 cm is equivalent to 4000 mm.

Question 3. Convert 70 cm into millimeters.

Solution:

Formula: mm = cm x 10

70 cm x 10 = 700 mm

Therefore 70 cm is equivalent to 700 mm.

Question 4. The length of an ant is 2mm. what could be its length in cm?

Solution:

Formula: cm = mm/10

2/10 = 0.2 cm.

Therefore 2 mm is equivalent to 0.2 cm

Question 5. The phone screen is 16 cm. what could be its length in mm?

Solution:

Formula: mm = cm x 10

16 cm x 10 = 160 mm

Therefore 16 cm is equal to 160 mm.

Question 6. Convert 2400 cm into mm.

Solution:

Formula: mm = cm x 10

2400 cm x 10 = 24000 mm.

Therefore 2400 cm is equal to 24000 mm.
